“The Office” Title Card

Motion Design / Storyboarding / Digital

Context

“The Office” is a popular American comedy sitcom series that aired from 2005 to 2013 on NBC. The show follows the story of a paper company branch under the name “Dunder Mifflin” located in Scranton, Pennsylvania. This show is known for its silly and exaggerated antics which you would not typically see in a common work space.

I was tasked to create a short animated title sequence for “The Office”, featuring its most prevalent actors and creators as credits. This piece would be shown at the start of each episode, following alongside and matching the appeal of the show’s already iconic theme song.

The goal for this project was to create a title sequence that fit the show’s aesthetic and encompassed the feeling of a disjointed office with the facade of a professional and tame office space, followed by hilarity and chaos that shortly unfolds beneath the surface.

Storyboards

Before jumping straight into animation, I needed to plan out exactly what I wanted to happen on the screen, when it happened, and how it occurred. This helped give me a much better idea of visualizing my final product as well as of what to expect in the next steps, which gave insight into creating more seamless and effective transitions and what each asset will be is in relation to each other on the composition.
